Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays based on the concerns we have for your dental health. The x-rays could include the panoramic x-ray to show all the teeth, periapical x-rays to see the roots of teeth, bite-wing x-rays for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.
Other tests and models may be recommended based on your needs.

Virtually all the dental fillings we perform today are tooth-colored, resin restorations. We do not recommend replacing existing silver amalgam fillings if they are healthy and providing good service. We do replace them when esthetics are a concern.
Regular prophylaxis is a requirement to maintain and prevent dental problems. We have three knowledgable and experienced dental hygienists to provide care.
In addition to dental hygiene appointments, many patients have more advanced needs to maintain their periodontal health. Periodontal health means the health of the supporting tissues of the teeth, specifically the gums and bone around the teeth. We use subgingival treatment and we try to stay up to date on the latest treatments available. Read about Perio Protect at this link..... www.perioprotect.com

Dental appliances can prevent snoring and treat mild to moderate levels of sleep apnea.
Dr. Mams sees patients for snoring and sleep apnea at Tygart Valley Medical Specialties (304)637-6302. Patients need to be evaluated by Jenny L. Cross, MD and when oral appliances can be useful, she will refer them to Dr. Mams for evaluation and treatment.
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. We work with an Oral Surgeon who places the implant and after an appropriate healing period, place the restoration whether that is a crown, a bridge, or a denture. Read More...
